Medieval astrologers across traditions viewed Mars in Pisces as a watery, dissolving influence on the planet of war, often portending naval conflicts, bloodshed at sea, and disrupted maritime activities rather than land battles.
Western Tradition
Medieval Western astrologers, drawing from Hellenistic sources, interpreted Mars in Pisces, its fall, as spilling blood in waters, burnings on islands, battles at seas and ports, and trade disruptions.
This reflects Mars's aggressive energy muted by Pisces's watery nature, leading to omens of naval strife over open warfare. Guido Bonatti and others emphasised Mars's role in war elections but noted Pisces's challenges for direct conquest.
Vedic Tradition
Vedic texts like Saravali describe Mars (Mangal) in Pisces (Meena) as causing personal woes like diseases, wealth loss, and misery, but lack explicit war omens, focusing on misdirected aggression or emotional storms. Modern interpretations highlight intuitive, faith-driven action without strong medieval yuddha (war) predictions tied to this placement.

Islamic Tradition
Islamic astrologers like Abu Ma'shar saw Mars in Pisces similarly, warning of maritime battles, port conflicts, and watery bloodshed amid trade interruptions. Pisces symbolised contradictions like life, giving rains turning to deluges, amplifying Mars's destructive potential in floods or sea wars rather than triumphs.
Abu Ma'shar's Kitāb taḥāwīl sinī al-'ālam (Latin: Flores Albumasaris, 1488 edition) details planetary revolutions and omens by sign, including illustrations, but specific Mars-Pisces passages on war require consulting full manuscripts.
Later syntheses like Ramesey's Astrologia Munda cite Abu Ma'shar alongside omens for malefics in Pisces, such as death or disruption when Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars conjoin there.
In another book, Persian Nativities I, it is mentioned that Mars aspecting in Sagittarius or Pisces in nativities implies potency for strife, but focuses on natal charts rather than mundane war omens.
The Book of Aristotle notes Mars's influence in watery signs like Pisces for events, consistent with spilling blood in seas from broader medieval Islamic views.
When Mars was in Scorpio, also a water sign, mirroring disruptions caused by Pisces, the US declared war on the Houthis. It indeed fits the medieval warnings of "spilling blood in waters" during such transits.
Moreover, with Mars in Scorpio, between November and December 2024, the war in Ukraine intensified. Heightened South China Sea frictions and Panama Canal droughts in June nd August 2025 coincided with Mars in Cancer. As of now, Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz to all ships besides Russian and Chinese vessels, as a response to continued and intensified American and Israeli aggression.
