The Legends of Tirich Mir

Tirich Mir

The Legends of Tirich Mir are many, which is no surprise given that it is the tallest peak of the Hindukush Ranges in Pakistan.

A legend surrounding the mountain is that of the Ring of  Hazrat Suleman. The Jinn who stole it is believed to have lived here.

In Wakhi, Tirich means shadow and Mir means Darkness; hence Tirich Mir translates to King of Darkness.

Krumai, a Goddess of the Kalasha, is also believed to live on the Tirich Mir. She appears in the form of a wild goat and is associated with childbirth.

Muslims from Chitral believe that the mountain is home to fairies. The Bohtan Doyak pelt stones at all those who try to invade their fortress.

The locals surrounding Tirich Mir call it “Changazi Baba” in spirit - an unseen guiding light.
